I have some friends who are future oriented and into space, AI, etc. but they’ve bought into the academic/activist left worldview and it clearly causes them a great deal of cognitive dissonance
You know they’re not going to stop with Elon, right? Nobody gets to leave this planet.
There are good ideas that come from the left! And good values.
But the current alliance of authoritarians, degrowthers, and dogpiling conformists is a death sentence for the species.
This is true. I have bought into this before, the “plutocratic exit strategy” worldview.
But it’s not true. The more you try to build a habitat off this planet, the more you know how amazing and precarious the biosphere is.

We wouldn’t even know about climate change if it weren’t for the space program! And we’re not going to fix a problem this big without a great deal more science and technology!
