The “new media” class changes the meta of Twitter. This character class now spawns natively on the X worldshard, and they can travel to Bluesky or Threads or other shards as well. Here’s what they can do — and how to defeat them
New media characters are an official version of the previous meta that players had evolved: group chats doing coordinated meme drops.
They get the Timeline Takeover ability, a totally unbalanced mechanic where they summon their coworkers to amplify their semiotic attacks. They also get the Certified Shill feat, which allows them to equip the badge of their company without losing anon cred.
(Sadly, “New media” is a terrible class name, clearly chosen to distinguish from the nerfed “journalist”. It’s hard to say, too many mouth movements. I preferred the playtest version, “poster”.)
New media are rolling out across X now. Expect to see some vicious multi-faction battles on the timeline as they try out their powers: podcasting, theme parties, generating ad copy for portcos, not being a journalist, Looking Good™, reporting on the daily ins and outs of the San Francisco corporate party and podcasting scene, and ordering doordash!
If you’re not new media, he’s what you need to know: Their powers are not psychically based, they’re actually enchanters. They speak their spells into reality.
Put your mute button on a hair trigger. If you see something you don’t like, mute it and scroll on. Spend any time reading their posts, and the algorithm will start feeding you all the similar ones they’ve generated and posted everywhere. You have to be ready to mute, block, not interested, report, etc. Algorithmancers have a huge advantage here.
New media will be spamming their attacks everywhere, and other classes are vulnerable until the meta evolves. What’s your plan to protect your mind from their nefarious maneuvers? Sound off in the comments below.
