Interesting analysis: The backlash will come when it’s obvious that AI does work, and then we will be blamed for everything under the sun.
I wonder if the conditions for a techlash can even happen again though. The industry has been Building its own storytelling apparatus for just this reason..
Also this is really the first technology in history which can actively try to persuade you of its own value. I guess maybe the TV tells you it’s important to look at the TV? But an AI assistant can personally gas you up, tell you exactly how it meets your needs. The product sells itself!
So yeah, maybe it’s true that the moral panic is growing. People are fearful. Maybe anti-Ai backlash has motion. But we should not forget that i is also very popular. It’s the fastest growing consumer technology ever, it can maybe even mind control people into advocating for it, defending it, avenging it.
And it can actually make your life better! Certainly has for me. But not if it’s part of some B2B SaaS garbage being shoved down your throat at work. People aren’t stupid! They can tell what’s good for them, and what is just somebody trying to make a quick buck. Make what’s good for them!
